Michael D. ("Duke") Savage joined Gersten Savage LLP in 1980 and has headed the Firm's tax practice since that time. Mr. Savage also does mergers and acquisitions work and advises foreign investment advisers on doing business with Americans.

Mr. Savage's tax practice compliments the Firm's corporate practice by providing advice on the tax consequences of various forms of acquisitions, by structuring tax-free reorganizations, and by tax planning designed to reduce the cost of taxable transactions. Mr. Savage also advises U.S. companies on the U.S. tax consequences of doing business overseas and on structuring overseas businesses, and he advises foreign companies on the tax aspects of doing business in the U.S. and on how to reduce their exposure to U.S taxes.

Mr. Savage also handles complex tax audits and large collection disputes and obtains advance rulings from the IRS on proposed transactions. He litigates commercial tax disputes in the U.S. Tax Court and in all federal courts in the United States .

Mr. Savage also heads the Firm's estate planning and estate tax planning practice and prepares wills and trusts. Trust work includes probate-avoiding revocable lifetime trusts and irrevocable life insurance trusts and other vehicles intended to reduce estate tax costs.

Mr. Savage is the author of : "Don't Let the IRS Destroy Your Small Business" (1999); "Good News/Bad News: The 1986 Tax Reform Act" (1987); "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Taxes but Didn't Know How to Ask" (1979). He also served as the editor of "Taxes Interpreted" newsletter from 1978 through 1995.
