Investors searching world for opportunities

The world's current thirst for commodities means there's lots of investment dollars available for small-cap and emerging public companies, Gordon Keep, managing director, corporate finance, for Endeavour Financial of Vancouver, said yesterday.
"There's lots of investment money looking for good opportunities but you have to be careful and you must have the right people doing the right job and the right asset," he told a seminar in Vancouver organized by Gersten Savage LLP, a New York firm specializing in the securities business.
"While the whole world is open to investors, especially in the mining sector, emerging companies have to make sure who their target audiences are and ascertain their risk and [investment] appetite levels."
He said getting everything in line from management to assets, to people becomes even more critical when it comes to foreign ventures.
Potential investors and the financial community will look at virtually any country and that makes it imperative for firms to get absolutely everything in line.
"When dealing with a foreign governments and businesses, you have got to have people in place who know how to operate successfully in that culture," he said.
"It is difficult but vital because countries often change their rules and there are little hiccups from time to time. You must also listen to your advisers.".
That is why it is imperative to get the right people in the right place from the outset. "It will make everything a whole lot easier on the money side of the equation, especially in the mining world where there is lots of demand for product," he added.
