Gersten Savage Targets Strategic Expansion
Independent New York law firm recruits
entrepreneurial associates
NEW YORK, July 19, 2007 – Gersten Savage LLP, one of New York's top five independent law firms, takes a targeted approach to recruitment. The firm, which specializes in corporate and finance, looks for associates with an entrepreneurial bent and works with them so they can develop their own businesses within the firm.
"We mentor our associates so they can build their own business with us," said Jay Kaplowitz, founding partner. "Within a few years, they can be running their own practices and in control of their destinies."
Gersten is looking to add attorneys in its core corporate, finance and hedge fund practices, as well as to expand other practice areas including real estate, trusts and estates, and employment law, according to partner David Danovitch. The firm recruits both experienced associates and recent law school graduates.
With about 25 attorneys, Gersten Savage, founded in 1977, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year as an independent. It's important to the firm to maintain its overall size and culture, Danovitch said.
"We plan to stay small and keep our vision, but we have the business for targeted growth with additional lawyers," he said. "People can grow with us, especially if they feel confined in larger firms.
